Villanova, a small school in suburban Philadelphia, has become a household name largely due to one man; Jay Wright. As head coach of The Villanova Men's Basketball team since 2001, Jay Wright as made the Villanova Wildcats a fixture in NCAA top 25 rankings and a perennial participant in March Madness, college basketballs ultimate springtime tournament.

Riding Radko

Radko Gudas had the game of his life Saturday night in a 6-0 Philadelphia Flyers blowout of the Columbus Blue Jackets. He took his game to anohther level (a level that most people didn't know he had in his arsenal). Gudas had 5 points on the entire season going into Saturdays game. He nearly matched that in one night tallying 2 goals and 2 assists on the evening. But that's not even what impressed me the most. Radko played with such passion I said to myself "this is what hockey is and how it's meant to be played". And the crowd at the Wells Fargo Center showed their appreciation by cheering every time he touched the puck and they gave him a standing ovation in the final 2 minutes as he went to the penalty box. It was great. He dished out a ton of hits, he was mixing it up and scrapping with the Blue Jackets every chance he got and even blasted one of his goals from center ice! In an attempt to get Gudas a hat trick, he was put on the power play with about Two minutes left in the game. Gudas never plays on the power play unit. The Blue Jackets were pissed off! I'm assuming they thought the Flyers were trying to rub it in with a 6-0 lead. His bid for a hat trick was immediately cut short when Columbus went after him and he was sent to the penalty box with just over 2 minutes left to play. He had a huge smile on his face sitting in the box with Wayne Simmonds as the crowd gave him a standing ovation. Most important was the outcome of the game. The Flyers desperately need every point they can get and they took 2 points Saturday night on the back of their big Czech defenseman Radko Gudas and I loved every minute of it. It reminded me of why I love hockey and why I love the Philadelphia Flyers.

Sinisalo played in the NHL from 1981–1992, scoring 204 goals and 426 points, mostly with the Flyers. He is ranked the all time most successful goal scorer among the European players in the history of Philadelphia Flyers. He is also ranked the fourth successful Finnish goal scorer in NHL history, which gave him an honor to be member of theFinnish Hockey Hall of Fame in 1997.^[2]

When Sinisalo started his ice hockey career in the 1970s, the NHL teams did not scout extensively from Finland. The first Finnish ice hockey player in NHL was Matti Hagman in 1976-77 forBoston Bruins. However, the NHL scouts were so impressed by his talents that they made an exception of hiring him as a free agent after his 1980-81 season in HIFK, SM-Liiga where he scored 27 goals in 36 games. He signed his first NHL contract on February 17, 1981.^[3] Sinisalo started his first season with Flyers by making history by scoring his first NHL score against Pittsburgh Penguins. Sinisalo became the first Flyers player to score his first NHL goal on a penalty shot, and the third of five NHL players in history. During the 1984-85 season, Sinisalo become one of theMike Keenan’s most trusted players with 73 points in 70 games, with a +32 rating. 1989-90 was Sinisalo’s last season with Flyers, after which he played one season for Minnesota North Stars and two seasons for Los Angeles Kings.^[2]
